Command & Conquer: The Generals 2 being created by BioWare

It’s been some years since Command & Conquer: The Generals was released and EA have decided it’s time to return to the title with the incredibly imaginative name of Command & Conquer: The Generals 2. Punchy, eh? But get this: BioWare are involved.

Yes, you heard right. As of this summer, BioWare Victory have joined the label and are busily building an RTS worthy of Mordor – er, I mean the C&C franchise. Plenty of fans have been gagging for a return to The Generals and EA have listened (over the course of several years, obviously) and decided that by “bringing BioWare’s vision for emotionally engaging gameplay and great attention to quality to the strategy genre and the Command & Conquer franchise”, The Generals 2 will be something more than a bit spectacular.

Considered to be the more realistic and serious of all the Command & Conquer games without the camp acting and inadequately-clothed female subordinates we all know and love from the Red Alert and Tiberium series, The Generals 2 aims to bring more of that realism and a chance to truly immerse the player in the story as well as using the Frostbite 2 engine to power the whole thing. Speakingin an interview with IGN, executive producer Jon Van Caneghem stated that, “With Generals 2, we are bringing the Command & Conquer franchise back to its roots, blending strategic gameplay with fast-paced action — all set in visually stunning theaters of war powered by Frostbite 2.”

Dated for sometime in 2013, The Generals 2 is sure to really be something special and will be for PC only, so you know you’re going to get a quality, from-the-ground-up sort of game rather than a shoddy console port. Check out the trailer below to see a bit of what’s on offer.
