Whereas the original Mass Effect game had your plucky squad of galactic coppers flitting back and forth from the Citadel, the sequel was decidedly Citadel-less in comparison. With very little time being spent in the galaxy’s most famous answer to the Bull Ring, fans were left wondering why such a pivotal part of the first game was not given more attention for the follow-up. Fortunately, however, Mass Effect 3 will remedy the previous game’s absence of all things pertaining to the enormous alien shopping center, and will indeed have the Citadel play a much bigger part in Mass Effect 3. Apparently, we can also expect to see formerly cut content — likely missions and sidequests — making its way into the next iteration of the franchise — tidied up cut content, I would presume.
Mass Effect series’ lead writer, Mac Walters, had this to say to OXM:
“There was a Mass Effect 2 plot that was a kind of callback to the first Mass Effect that was going to be on the Citadel, and we cut it. But now it’s made a resurrection in Mass Effect 3, so I’m happy, but I can’t say what it is. That’s the nice thing about trilogies, sometimes you get a second chance.”
Good stuff. Get those wallets ready to go on a spending spree in the Citadel once more when Mass Effect 3 jettisons in next year.
