Welcome back, Commander. Strategy fans whom have been longing for more Tesla coil-charged action will want to dust off those copies of Red Alert 3 that’ll be lying around somewhere. Thanks to a creative bunch of people — whom probably adore the classic Command & Conquer series an awful lot more that I do — over The Red Alert have put together a corking little mod that faithfully brings forward all the classic units, structures and gameplay elements of Westward Studios’ highly addictive armchair-adventure from 1996, and effectively implements the familiar feel of the original Red Alert game into Red Alert 3. Fans who happened to be quite fond of the Aftermath expansion pack will be pleased to learn that the extra content from that add-on has also managed to roll its way into the mod, too.
The attention to detail is really quite remarkable, with most everything in-game being easily recognizable and resembling their retro origins. Aside from being built on EA’s newer, prettified 3D engine, you’d be hard pushed to find any discrepancies between the original game and the new fan-developed re-creation.
“[The Red Alert] for Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 is based directly off the seminal Red Alert’s art and gameplay. Not aiming to model realism, the mod instead endeavors to recreate the essence of the original title. The Red Alert will bring the addictive heart-pounding gameplay of this C&C classic to a world-class 3D engine, complete with all the original units, including those from the Aftermath expansion.”
Weighing in at a hard drive friendly 400MB, you’ve no excuse to miss out on this dazzling mod if you consider yourself a true fan of the Command & Conquer series. You can download the mod via here or here.
